1950 British Shilling from the reign of King George VI. The obverse (front) of the coin features the head of King George VI with the legend "GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX" (George VI by the Grace of God King of Great Britain, Defender of the Faith). The reverse (back) of the coin has a lion atop a crown, with the legend "FID DEF IND IMP" (Defender of the Faith) and "ONE SHILLING".
These coins were minted in copper-nickel and were part of the pre-decimal currency system, where there were 20 shillings to a pound and 12 pence to a shilling. The 1950 Shilling has a diameter of 23.5 mm and weighs 5.6 grams
